Quick Change Queens
I’ve just published a third variation of Dr. Daley’s Last Trick to Packet Trick Paradise, a regular column that I write as part of my email Ruseletter. The trick, called “Quick Change Queens”, fuses the two-by-two transposition with a colour-changing back effect. It uses four regular playing cards, which can be thoroughly examined after the routine is finished.
A few years ago, I developed a simple routine using four blue-backed playing cards. In it, the backs of the cards changed from blue to red, one card at a time. A little while later, Phil Pearce, a fellow amateur magician from Dallas, Texas, shared his version with me. He read an old blog post of mine on the plot, and we started exchanging ideas via email.
More recently, I revisited the routine and streamlined the handling. I discovered a way to strengthen the colour changes and added an ending inspired by Dr. Daley’s Last Trick. I’ve also developed an optional comical kicker ending which sees two of the Queens transform into Kings.
